Shimmer paint and creating the mother of pearl effect

Many have asked: What more can you do with shimmer paint ?
The second card we made last weekend used the
Elements of Style stampset with the
 "Mother of pearl" technique.
To start, we used a circle of Gloss white cardstock as a shiny base to stamp on.
We stamped our "Elements of style" humming bird - rock and rolling it in the Lucky Limeade and Island Indigo inks. The glossy cardstock is slippery so you need to stamp carefully and give it a moment to dry.
Next we scrunched a piece of cling wrap and dabbed it into the shimmer paint (on a plastic lid).
You lightly dab the cling wrap onto the gloss paper and wait while it dries.
Lastly, sponge a soft colour like Pool Party, baja breeze, pink pirouette, pretty in pink over the shimmer paint (the shimmer resists the ink).
And you have an effect that looks like "Mother of pearl"!
Too easy!
It looks best out in the light, with the sun shining on it.
I like this one with the Creative Elements butterfly.
And check out that groovy piece of crunchy Seam binding Pool party ribbon !!!
Sprayed and crunched with Frost white SHIMMER PAINT - in isocol spray.
Hope you liked it - Enjoy!

Two days left to Sale-a-brate!

As a demonstrator I recieve a magazine every month called "Impressions" and it has lots of new card ideas to inspire and use in our stampin up workshops.
This is one we made on the weekend.
It features the Fresh Vintage stampset, the Everyday Enchantment papers, Everyday enchantment ribbons and brads, and I have used the other SAB set - Elementary Elegance for the Happy birthday stamp on the Curly label punch.
Each of the Postage stamps is inked direct-to-rubber with the sponge dauber in different combinations of the in-colours. I love the postage stamp punch with its frilly edges.
My favourite detail on this card is the Crochet ribbon lace layered with Organdy ribbon.
Saleabration ends on Friday 30th March - I am taking last minute orders up to Friday 5pm.

Marching through Sale-a-bration

I think I like the bright colours and the gorgeous patterns of the Designer series paper best, from this years Sale-abration offerings.
They are so versatile and the sponging is done for you on the Everyday Enchantment papers.
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, coordinates.
The stampsets work well together with the paper and the colours are just delightful.
And the images in the Fresh Vintage stampset also go with the new postage stamp punch in the Summer mini.
I love the punches, I love the Everyday Enchantment paper and the Ribbon and brad-pack and yes I have piled them all on the same card!!!
In the stamping is a technique called "Sponge to rubber".
Simply adding the ink to the rubber stamp using a sponge dauber to put the ink where you want, and not where you don't.
The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Sale-a-bration Elementary Elegance stampset punched out with the Curly label punch. And, I just love the princess crown that fits neatly into the 3/4" circle punch.
Finished off with some crochet lace and Lemon Limeade organdy ribbon.
... a bright and cheerful card for a friend.
Not sure what all those 3s mean - perhaps 3,333 days?
(That's about 9 years for those without a calculator on hand).

My card was featured on Crafty picks...

Thank you Tiffany. It is such a surprise to be acknowledged on your blog.
This is the card that Tiffany featured on my craftyworld.blogspot.com

Mother's day cards in March?

Mother's Day is only about 7 weeks away ... did I count that correctly?
I usually find if I don't make cards for an event a month a head I totally miss it. Does that happen to you?
When I think of mother's day I think of flowers and this beautiful Rich Razzleberry colour with patterned designer series paper gives a rich background to this stamping technique.

Has anyone shown you the Mother-of-Pearl technique before?
It is just another use for our gorgeous shimmer paint.
In brief you apply the shimmer paint with plastic cling wrap, then sponge ink onto the glossy cardstock in soft colours such as baja breeze, pretty in pink.
And when it dries you stamp an image over the top in black stazon ink. When it catches the light it shines like mother of pearl.
Quick Recipe:
Stampset: Fabulous Florets (Summer mini), Teeny tiny sentiments.
Cardstock: Rich razleberry, whisper white and glossy white.
Designer series paper: Pocketful of Posies.
Ink: baja breeze, pink and Rich razzleberry.
Tools: 6cm and 4 cm circle punches, modern label punch.
Sponges, sponge daube, cling wrap.
Shimmer paint - frost white.

Wishing you happiness...

This is definitely a card that is better in real life.
I am making a series of cards with fabric, layers and the textures.
It's a touchy feely card in both senses of the word.
Starting with the houndstooth embossing on the base card, the fabric scallop circle and ruffled ribbons.
Then, I distressed a piece of cardstock with lots of shimmer paint spray and tucked it underneath the folded tag on the front.
I have tied the tag with a ruffled ribbon and a vintage tag (with a pearl)!
Embossed the tag with the Designer frames folder (as it fits perfectly on to it).
And sponged and sprayed with ink and shimmer mist.
On the outside it says:
Wishing you ....
and on the inside:
... happiness, today and always.
Card Recipe:
Fabric: Timeless Portrait
Big shot machine
Scallop Circle die
Houndstooth embossing folder
Designer frames embossing folder
Two tags die.
Stampsets: Forever young
   Heard from the heart
Cardstock: Pool Party, Concord Crush, Very Vanilla
Ink: Pool Party, Basic Black, Island Indigo.
Shimmer paint: Frost white
Itty bitty Punch Pack,
 Lace border punch.
Ribbon: vanilla seam binding, pool party ruffled.
Antique brad, mini vintage tag.
Sponge dauber and Pearls.

Timeless Portrait in the lumpy bumpy style

I think this is the style that was meant for me.
Layers of fabric, texture, ribbons, border punches, vintage, but fairly clean and a few pearls for embellishment.
I quite enjoyed making this card using the Forever young, Established Elements and Kindness matters stampsets.
I have fussy cut the picture frame and ink swirl  stepping them up with dimensionals.
Which by the way stick very well to fabric and ribbon.
I've manage to use my Lace ribbon border punch with First Edition printed paper.
And punched the Modern label for my sentiment.
The embossed frame is made with the big shot and Designer frames folder.
My Cherry Cobbler Seam binding ribbon has been tied into a bow and crumpled mercilessly...
Sprayed with a bit of shimmer mist spray and crumpled again!
The fabric circle is Timeless portrait fabric cut out with my Big shot and Clear Circle die.
You will find it on page 158 of the 2012 IB&C.
